Palm.... Trees
So to avoid coming back to my own little personal overheated hell, I just went straight up to the cottage after getting off the plane on Friday. I had no intentions of going up there, but I got off the plane, felt the humidity and figured it was a good 5 degrees cooler up there. Plus even the freaking cottage has A/C and I don't. Not that I'm bitter about it. But now I'm back. It's a balmy 84 in here. San Diego was fun, although we somehow managed to get rained on. I think it rains like 10 days a year there and I managed to hit one of them. Figures. But at least it wasn't sweltering hot out. And really, there was very little work over the course of the trip. 3 hours Tues, 3 hours Wed, 3 hours Thurs, 0 hours Fri (unless you count flying as work). Considering my normal 10 hour day, not too shabby at all. Flights went without incident. If you don't count a screaming, temper-tantrum throwing, seat-kicking 5 year old as an incident. In all my flights, I have never -- NEVER -- witnessed a display like this kid put on. I blame her parents. Her mom tried to excuse it as "it's her first time flying." I'm sorry, not an excuse. She's 5, she's old enough to behave. And if she's not, then don't make her first flight a 5 hour flight across the continent. I'm not sure her parents cared though. At one point, the little hellion told her sister "Shut up you bitch" and her parents just thought it was funny. On the way off the plane, the guy next to me (also an unfortunate recipient of much seat kicking) asked her mom, "What flight are you returning on? I just want to make sure I'm not on it." I thought that was funny. Her parents didn't. Apparently they only get laughs from their 5 year old's curse words. I got to have my first ever "real" massage out there. Ohhhh, it was marvelous. I could get used to that. The hotel overall was incredible. It was built in the late 1800s. And it's been well cared for, no one has managed to screw it up. All the original wood work, the original cage elevator with the little elevator operator with his little hat, walk right out to the beach. It's definitely in my top 3 best hotels. It's competing with the Charlotte Street Hotel in London and the Shangri-La in Shanghai. I think it beats the Shangri-La, just based on location. Chalk up points for anything not in China. And more points since none of my food was served with its head and feathers. There was a beach party on Wednesday night with a palm reader. It's not like I'm a big believer in all that, but it's good fun. And she was eerily accurate in some cases. The first thing she said to me when I sat down, after asking my name and looking at my palms a bit was "You need your space don't you? You don't like to have too many people around." Hmmm... She can tell I'm a loner by my palms? Interesting. She also said that I "have travelled as much as someone who is 99" and within the last year I "have changed two sets of walls, home and office." Then she predicted that I will be married in 12-21 months, that I am due for a raise (of which I informed my bosses), and that I will have two kids. She informed me however, if I don't want to have those kids now, I need to (and I quote) "take care of that." Duely noted. I also apparently need to eat more vegatables. It was good times, whether it's true or not. My little garden had a good couple of days while I was gone. In an act of defiance of whatever was eating things, I replanted beans, tomatos and peppers before I left. My peas are climbing all over the fence. My beans have sprouted and my tomato plant grew about a foot in 6 days. My pepper plant however seems to be having a rough time again. Oh well. Alright, I'm going to go lay in front of the fan now. Cheerio. SOTD: Matthew Ryan, Skylight
