Excuse me, do you have a pen?

Did you know that people still use checks? Like to pay for stuff in stores? I figure I write maybe 2 checks a month... One for rent and one random one for something else. And never in a store. I thought that was normal. I mean, they've invented the check card and online banking and everything. Turns out, in southwest Michigan, people have not yet caught on to the idea. (Huh? Banking on the internet? I thought that was just for porn...) I stood in line 3 times yesterday behind people who wrote checks. How is it always "Excuse me, do you have a pen?" and "Haha, what store am I in?" and "Hmmmm, do you spell 40 f-o-u-r-t-y or f-o-r-t-y?" and "Wait, how many cents was that?" And then they must immediately record the purchase in their little log and struggle to figure out what 524.37 minus 43.48 is. I don't know what that equals either, but I don't do math in public. And meanwhile, the cashier is feeding the check in and out of the register a good half-dozen times to get it to validate. And the line is growing and growing and growing (and I'm always in it!) and the check-writer is of course oblivious. Because if they weren't oblivious, they wouldn't write checks!

SOTD: Shhh, TJ is still sleeping!
